I've played with the beta version and really like it. Adobe Flash now works so you can waste time at youtube.com.
I do want to look at other flavors of Linux to see what the big difference is between Ubuntu and the others.
Linux will not reach mass consumer level happyness until the following issues are resolved:
Installation - The Mac OS X installer makes it easy to figure out what drive you want to install the OS on and graphically walks you through the whole process. Ubuntu is OK but if you don't know how hard drives work, it can be a bit scary.
- Which flavor to use? - Red Hat, Ubuntu, Open SUSE, Fedora, Gnome, KDE?
- Where do I find support? - Ahhh, that's why it's free...
- Drivers - I have this esoteric whatchamacallit, why won't Linux recognize it? CUPS? Wazzat?
- Software Availability - Where can we find software, Why do I have to convert some packages to one Ubuntu will work with? Why is the whole process inelegant?
