Banned? But I Watched It Yesterday.

The Chinese government has decided, ahead of the planned February 9 release in that country, the movie Memoirs of a Geisha.

The problem with that ban is that many people in China have already seen the movie. This may be a little hard to believe given that neither the movie remains unreleased in China and the DVD for the movie has not been published anywhere yet.

Thank the huge amount of movie piracy going on in China for that ban having no strength behind it. According to Cinematical.com, roughly 95% of the DVDs available in the country are of pirated movies.

Ah, sweet irony.

Now maybe the Chinese government will finally start to really crack down on movie and software piracy.
