Hitler Mountain HQ Now a Luxury Hotel

the Intercontinental Resort Berchtesgaden will open March 1 on the mountain top above Berchtesgaden, Germany. Neighboring the new hotel will be the buildings associated alpine fortress retreat Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party built there

The retreat was liberated by the U.S. Army 101st Airborne and occupied by Easy Company, 509th PIR, as depicted in the HBO miniseries, "Band of Brothers."

As noted in a CNN.com story,

Most of the Obersalzberg buildings were destroyed by Allied bombers in 1945.

The U.S. military used the area as a resort after World War II, before handing it back to Germany in 1996.

Bavarian officials blew up Hitler's guest house in 1952 out of fears it would become a neo-Nazi shrine.
