According to CNN,
British newspapers reported Monday that under Britain's 1994 Marriage Act, the public must have unfettered access to witness a marriage so they can object if they wish. The ceremony had been moved from Windsor Castle to a town hall because the law said that the castle would then need to be open other common law marriages for three years.
The prince's public spokespersons are talking about the security concerns but there's another issue that is far bigger. The public must have access in order to raise any sort of objection to the marriage.
There are enough people who are opposed to the marriage, out of deference to Princess Diana.
Before this latest bit of news, I really didn't care about the wedding because I am not a fan of the concept of royalty, English or otherwise. Now though, this has the makings of true comedy.
